You wake up tomorrow morning, and miracle of miracles your body is perfect. You look in the mirror and by golly, you have muscles in all the places you’ve ever wanted muscles and no fat in all the places you’ve ever wanted no fat. You hop on the scale after breakfast for fun. The number you see is the perfect number. The one that is just exactly the number you’ve always thought it should be.
You get a text from God at 10 A.M. that simply states, “You will live until you are an old man/woman and I’ll take good care of you until then. Enjoy this new bod, you can keep it! But don’t forget to floss. Love, G.”
What’s next for you?
In this daydream scenario, how much do these overnight miracles impact what you do next? How much of your life would be different if you were finally “just right” in your own eyes? How much of your life would be different if God let you know, “I’ve got this, enjoy.” ?
Spend a minute reflecting on what impact the overnight changes in your body might have on your thoughts, behaviors, and actions. Would you save money and time and donate it instead? Would you apply for that job? Would you give more to others?
This scenario above illustrates why I became an intuitive eating counselor. I don’t do this work because I love food and love to cook. I don’t do this work because I am a fitness and exercise expert. I don’t do this work because I am a lover of dietetics and nutrition.
I do this work because I know that many people feel that if they woke up in a perfect body….
their lives would change dramatically, for the better.
they could finally pursue their dreams and share their gifts with the world.
they would be kinder, more generous and more loving.
they would no longer be depressed. Or anxious. Or full of shame.
they would have the partner of their dreams.
they would be respected and celebrated.
I do this work because sadly these are the lies diet culture sells us.
I do this work because I know that diet culture is promising you a sense of peace and joy in your body that you absolutely, positively will NEVER find through the number on a scale or type of food.
I do this work because life is a real gift, and whether you enjoy life 15 pounds heavier or lighter than you are today, does not change that gift one single bit.
And for better or worse, the people in perfect bodies have the same insecurities, fears, anxieties, and sadness as those who live in average bodies and larger bodies. They woke up hoping to be respected and celebrated just like you did today.
Don’t wait to play the game of Life until your body is perfect. Because years will go by and it will never be just right. We need you to play Life now, starting this minute. Your gifts are too precious not to share. When I look at you, I see you as a light to this world. And my goal is to help you let that light shine so bright it reaches every corner of the earth.
And at 94, I don’t want to hear you say, “ I wish I would have just had the cake and enjoyed the glass of wine.”
